5/4/11-SPRING IS HERE!!!!!!!!...... and with it the striped ones have returned. It took a bit for the weather to get going, but it looks like things are shaping up. One thing is for sure........SQUID are in thick from Falmouth to Chatham. So thick I can't help going. Bluefish should be making an appearance in the next week or so if not by mothers day. On the freshwater seen, the bass are in beds believe it or not and the trout fishing is amazing on Cape. Jamaica Pond got a nice slug of both big trout and salmon a few weeks ago. I made a few trips back to the hood and had blast catching some nice trout from both JP and Houghton's and carp from the charles. Part of me misses living in the city. I grew up there and fished so much of it, that it will always have a special place in my hart. The thing I miss the most is carp! they are always there and easy to catch as well as being big. Well im keeping it short this report but Im posting pleanty of pictures mostly Squid pics. Still trying new things with my camera to give you guys the feeling you were there and get to see what I do. If your in mid Cape stop by the shop and say hello. Im working at Riverview Bait and Tackle on Rt28 in S. Yarmouth full time now. Its a great shop with a ton of inventory from clamming, tuna, archery, fishing, camping, and now even Kayaks(freedom hawk). Well, I hope everyone the best, be safe and Tight Lines!!!!!!!!!!!

| The 2011 Ice Fishing Season is Here! |
2/2/2011- Nothing taste better then Venison Burgers on the ice.......lol......Its been a great week of both jigging and fishing shiners under traps. Made a few Perch trips and jigged up some monster yellows in the 2+lb. range. Highlight of the week was getting my dad out for his first ice experience. I let him take the first flag that popped when he got there and it was a small pickerel. Even tho he was very happy, I was not satisfied. I had set up the Arctic Warrior in a great spot as I always do and prayed it would go off while he was there. Well my prayers were answered and after some coaching and a long battle he iced a nice fat 5-1/2l b largie. It was awesome and he was so excited about his bass and could not believe it took him 77 years to do this. I don’t think I’ll have to twist his arm anymore to get him out on the hard water again. That just goes to show how much fun someone of any age can have while ice fishing. So if you never tried it, head on out and give it a try and take the little ones with you. Kids love ice fishing more then anyone. Just show them how to be safe. I did manage some big pickerel this week as well, and one is now a personal best for me. The 30” fish weighed in at 7 lb. 2oz and was just massive. The pike look a like was released to fight another day after being weighed in. I always said I’d mount a 7 lb. Pick, but just didn’t have the hart to do so. I would love to catch that fish on the jig rod or in open water and if I kept it...........Well I might just never get that chance. Keeping the report short since Im a little pressed for time so enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed the Venison Burgers and be safe out there. This snow keeps making it harder and harder to get out on ice.

1/22/2011- So much rain over the last week on the south shore and Cape Cod has opend up some spots, but with the cold snap this weekend and into next week it should harden all up again. Still I advise caution if heading out this way. For some reason I just can’t get away from the perch. I just love jigging up jumbo size yellows. Something about the colors and the way they look and fight that makes it very enjoyable. I made a trip for browns/smallies and even tho the smallies didnt want to play the brown trout were quite coaporative. The brownies were off a rocky ledge in 33 to 39’ of water and hungry. Coolest thing this week was Dan’s Blue Pickeral. My thought on this is, it was kept for a few days with to much blue bait saver in a well before release. Either way, its was pretty cool to see..........Nice catch Dan!
Some of you may remember OTW host Jay Baver, Well he just started a great new Video/blog site named www.Berkshireoutdoors.com and is trying to help save The Housatonic River and Woods Pond. It would be a great loss to such a wonderful Fishery if we Don’t help. So please visit the site, Watch the videos and follow instructions on how you could help save this wonderful place.
Thanks,

1/19/2011- Well just like I predicted the ice fishing has been great this year with lots of trophy size fish coming up thru the holes. There has been plenty of good ice on some of the ponds around here and should only get better after the rain we’ve had and things lock up again. Todd and the boys have made there way down to this neck of the woods a couple times already and have had some good times. The jigging for panfish has been spectacular as well. With some jumbo yellows, whites and Gills.
I will be doing some seminars on Butterfly Jigging from shore at The Worcester Fishing and Hunting Expo. Hope to see some of you readers. I will be covering the new jigs as well as the new IMX loomis surf rods. Should be a great time so sit in on the seminar or swing by the shimano booth and say hi. For a link to the show, seminar schedule and times click on the Worcester show banner up top.

1/6/2011- Happy New Year! my OTHF readers. I hope you all the best in life, wealth, and of coarse on a great and wonderful 2011 season. Fishing has continued to be fast and furious with the cold waters species like trout and salmon. Looks like things will be freezing up soon and I will be shedding off the waders for a pair of bibs and pac boots. From the look of things it just might be one hell of a ice season. So stay safe and be careful on the fresh ice. Im going to continue to do as much open water as I can. Its the Cape, so you just never know. Going to try and keep up on things around the site and maybe try and get back to updating reports more regularly. i have a lot of cool ideas id like to add so check in from time to time. Also going to try and do some different stuff with my pictures and have them tell a story and capture the thrill of fishing then just me holding up fish. I hope you all enjoy them.............. Tight Lines!!!
