1/5/09- It all started as a rumor of salmon going into the Cape ponds before the New Year. So when the weekend came around I decided to head out and find out for myself. Three of us along with many anglers spent the day at Cliff searching for the salmon and with no sign of them. The rumors were starting to look like just that ...Rumors...until a single cast proved them to be true. The fish was beautifull making me think it had come from the Palmer Hatchery. It had all it's fins and fought well in the cold water and weighed in at 12lbs 4oz. It had hit a Fiord Spoon and a little while later I had another fish on, but that one never got the hook well and popped off after a few head shakes. The next day we decided to try a little closer and not so far up the Cape. Plymouth is where we would start and with such cold temps we had to break our way trough 2" of ice to get to the open water. It was hard work, but we had fun and proved to be worth the effort when about 10 cast in I hooked up with another salmon. I stopped by MassWildlife to see how many fish whent in and was told that 6 fish from 9lbs-20lbs were stocked in each of the following ponds Little Pond, Long Pond, Peter's Pond, Sheep'ts Pond, and Cliff and that they will be stocking more fish at a later date. Though these fish won't be as big and will range 4-6lbs, they will be a blast to catch and are more willing to bite............So wether your fishing open water or the hard stuff this weekend be safe and tight lines.
