Update

2/15/08-Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Have a wounderfull Thanksgiving, and Happy Valentines Day…….This has been the longest time I have gone with out a report. I have been extremely busy. With the new house, work, and not feeling all that great it’s been hard to keep up with the site let alone get out on the water, but I guess I’ve gotten out enough to keep me sane. Though thru all this I some how came to pull another Angler of The Year award for 2007, and along with some hard wear with my 21 lb Salmon and 6lb 14oz white cat which whom both won gold. That’s about as much action as I’ve had. A few great Salmon trips on the cape ponds with lots of numbers, but not much for size and recently, a great valentines day outing that gave up a 7lb 2oz Largie on a crank bait. The open water bass fishing has been phenomenal lately as well, Crank baits and Jerk baits have been accounting for some good numbers of bass if you can bare the cold and wind. Trout fishing has been great with some nice holdover fish being beached under all tactics. The Salmon continue to be the prized quarry of most cold water fisherman. If your looking for some numbers or a chance for one of these great extras of our state. Id give Peters, long, or little a try. All three ponds received in upwards of 100 fish a piece. If it’s that monster of a life time your looking for then Cliff or Sheeps would be more your speed, but I have to warn you these two places have been hit hard and not much fish left. Those only received about 20 fish each ranging from eight to the high teens. I will be working shows this year for both The Fishing Academy and Aquaskinz at MSBA and RISSA shows, so please come by and say hellow or buy a raffle for some great prizes to help The fishing Academy reach out to more city kids this year. I still can’t up-load pictures, but as soon as I do I will post some up with some new reports. You can check out some of my most recently outings including the 7lb largie along with many others on You Tube. Just click on video in the menus and then on the link …Enjoy!!!!

Thank you and tight lines,

Roy

Did I mention it was shark week!!!!!

8/3/07-Some amazing Shark action off the and outer Cape beaches this week. In the last 3 nights I have managed to wrestle many of these beautiful creatures up on the beach. The power of these animals is incredible. There blistering runs and bull doggish fights are so addicting that I can't find time to sleep between work and play. It had been a few years since I have targeted them like this, but I made a promise to my self to do so this year. The sharks range from 40 lbs to more and the average this year seems to be 70 to 100lbs and mostly Browns(Sand Bar Shark),but there are also Duskys, and Sand Tigers which are both protected and must be released unharmed.Practicing catch & release with these magnificent creatures insures our fisheries for tomorrow I had one fish over 100lbs the other night to the surf that popped the hook before I could grab his tail and wrestle him in. Another one almost spooled me with 500 yards of power pro before cutting thru my leader. I had the pleasure of inviting 2005 angler of the year Todd Mattera and his buddy Steve down for some action. They both left with stories and an ear to ear smile that am sure kept them awake for the 3 hour ride home. Along came former host Jay Baver of On the Water's TV show fishing New England with a camera crew and a great night was had. 3 Sharks were filmed that night and it should make for some great video. I played shark wrangler taking the duty of wrestling these strong sharks to shore with out getting bit. I enjoy that part the most. To be able to get in the water with them is just pure adrenalin. It's shark week on the Discovery Channel they couldn't have timed it any better.

7/26/07- Fishing has been good when I can find the time to get out. Luckily I have the kids at The Fishing Academy to do it for me. Watching them catch there first or biggest fish ever has been enough to keep me insane. Even with the lack of fishing this year I have managed to pull a great multiy species bag which has put me at this time in the running for Masswildlife’s angler of the year award. With 14 so far, If I can get out a few more times before the end of the year I will have a great shot at breaking my record of 16 in one year. Recently I got out on a few smallmouth and largemouth night trips. A few weeks ago the night bite had been incredible, but has slowed down a bit over the last week. Im sure that with the hot days we have had it should pick back up. Trout fishing should be good on stocked ponds even in the middle of the day. Trolling flies or Rapalas on 5 to 6 colors of lead core should do the trick. I took a couple of kids trolling a couple days back with some nice results; the rainbows were practicly committing suicide. Boston Harbor has been a Mecca for winter flounder and our academy trips on the Helen H have come back with loads of doormat fluke for the kids. (On a side note next time your out for fluke or inshore ground fish (scup, sea bass ECT) try some garlic scent, I have been using it for a few years now with great success) Monster blues have been around as well. It’s been along time since these big 15+lb blues have come in close to shore in numbers, but with the amount of pogies the last couple years it was only a matter of time. On a personal note I have finally found a new home and soon will be moving to Plymouth. This brings me on step closer to the waters I love to fish so much. The next few years will be hard but one thing is for sure I will be fishing from time to time. It’s been very difficult for me to keep up-dating the site with every thing that’s going on. My free time is all I have to be out on the water. Usually it’s in the wee hours of the night, but must do with what I have. I am making freshwater reports in the Fisherman magazine under the Massachusetts freshwater section on weeks I get out. So make sure to check it out. Believe me I haven’t forgotten about my readers, just have been extremely busy. I enjoy reading the emails and I apologize if I have missed a few that I haven’t returned. Im going to try like hell to do some up-dating on site. Till then tight lines and god bless.

5/21/07- Spring Crappie must be in the air. The Crappie fishing has been great over the past few weeks and even though I’ve caught some nice ones and a few on the Sponge Bob rod nothing compares to the monster 2lb 6oz slab that 7 year old Mark Pacino caught while fishing with his dad. His dad told me, he is quite a fisherman and by the looks of things I’ve got some serious competition to look for. Keep up the good work little big guy and congrats on one nice fish. Crappie isn’t the only game around. It always seems that this time of the year there is so much to fish for it’s hard to decide. The trout fishing is phenomenal as well as shad, bass, pan fish and every thing else, but it’s the salt water that pushes my buttons and has me dreaming at work. With word of bigger stripers every day and loads of blues in the Falmouth area, it is hard not to want to call out sick and bend a rod. Luis and I got into some fish a couple weeks ago and really hammered the blue fish to 9lbs on top water action with lots of bass mixed in. I know lots of people don’t like blues, but when the action is that good I’ll take it. Hopefully I’ll get out this weekend and get rid of some of those not being able to fish enough blues. I hope every one has a wonderful and safe Memorial Day weekend. Tight lines and god bless.

5/6/07- It’s been way to long. 2007 has so far been an extremely busy year for my self. With all the shows and seminars in March and now house hunting while still working a 50 hour work week, getting out has been hard to do. I have to admit that this is where all my hard work spent fishing over my life time has paid off. With only being able to fish one full day a week and maybe another after work, 2007 has turned out to be one of my most productive years so far. Five months in to the year and I have acquired 9 species for my run at being the 2007 Mass Wildlife Angler of the year, but enough about me. The fishing has been phenomenal across the state. The freshwater fishing has truly started to blow open. From Trout to pan fish and bass this has been an exceptional year for some trophy fish. Just check out some of the monster Bass being caught on swim baits in the last two weeks by some seasoned and some new anglers on www.newenglendfishing.net. You must be a member to view the forum, but well worth what you will gain in knowledge. I do advise parents to keep your kids away from the Hang Out section it can be a little mature for them. Bass fishing isn’t the only big fish in town. The State has done a great job at stocking some very large trout across Massachusetts. Big trout of all species are being caught and I my self had one hell of a day when I landed many browns, tigers, & brook trout well over 3lbs including a 8lb 6oz brown and a monster 3lb 9oz brookie on the Sponge Bob Rod. There have also been many big rainbows coming from the Cape waters. I got to tangle with one huge rainbow inside Nickerson State park a few weeks ago only to loose the fight at my feet when he spit the hook. If I had to guess a weight I would but the monster bow at 9-10lbs…How’s that for a broken hart. Wachusett Reservoir has also blown open with many numbers of lakers being caught including rumors of an 18lb fish. The White perch bite has also finally picked up and fish over 2lb are being beached on blown crawlers behind the stone church in the Thomas Basin section of the res. On the saltwater side of things schoolie striper action can be found all over with reports of some keeper fish being landed. With the warm weather coming this week it’s only a matter of time before it goes nuts in the surf and I am sure that reports of the first blue fish will be coming in by next weekend. So if you got tons of yard work to do or other chores, get them done. The season is finally here……..Maybe I should take some of that advice……Be safe out there and tight lines
